Develop sniper-like focus by working in small, intense increments of time.

Start off with 30 minutes. Turn off everything and zero in on the task at hand. After 30 minutes take a 5-6 minute break. Do something totally unrelated. After your break, do another 30 minutes of intense work and so on.

If you notice your mind wandering during the 30 minutes then break it down into 15-minute increments. It doesn’t matter how small the increments are. The point is to train your mind to focus and prove to yourself that you can do it.

Soon you’ll be able to focus intensely for longer periods of time. I usually work for 54 minutes and then take a 6-minute break. I always use at least one of those 6 minutes for chillaxation.

If I’m writing, doing research, or working on seminars and talks, I can put in 16 hours a day using this method. I’ll get an incredible amount of work done, and still have plenty of energy left over.

When doing something I hate to do, I can get 3 to 4 hours in before I start screaming and pulling out my hair. (Look at my picture.) The beautiful thing is- everything gets done much faster. Rapidity is a by-product of intense focus.

The bottom line is- you have a choice to make. You’ve just learned two highly effective techniques for getting motivated and staying focused.

You could sit there and continue to deal with the constant pain of coming down on yourself for being an underachiever or…

You could use what you learned to get what you really desire.

So what’s it going to be?
